Advanced care for your pet
At PEAK VETS, we understand that accurate and timely diagnostics are essential for providing the best care for your pet. Our diagnostic services ensure we can quickly and efficiently assess your pet’s health, helping us make informed decisions about their treatment. From in-house pathology to advanced imaging techniques including ultrasound and radiography, we are fully equipped to diagnose a wide range of conditions.
In-house pathology
Our in-house pathology lab allows us to conduct a range of tests on-site, providing fast and reliable results. Whether it’s bloodwork, urine tests or cytology, we can quickly analyse samples to identify infections, organ dysfunctions, or other health concerns. With these immediate results, we can start treatment right away, reducing wait times and providing peace of mind for you and your pet.
Some of the tests that we can provide through our in-house pathology include:
- Complete blood count: looking at both red and white blood cells.
- Biochemistry blood analysis: enables us to evaluate the kidneys, liver, electrolytes, pancreas and inflammatory proteins.
- Urinalysis: great for diagnosing urinary tract infections (UTIs), but also very important for monitoring kidney disease and diagnosing other metabolic diseases such as diabetes.
- Cytology: commonly used when diagnosing skin and ear infections as well as investigating the cause of lumps.
- Progesterone testing: used to predict ovulation to determine the optimal time for breeding and also used to predict whelping.
- Phenomav testing: important for monitoring therapeutic drug levels when treating epilepsy.
- T4: used for diagnosing and managing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
If more specialised testing is required, such as histopathology on biopsies or lumps, samples can be sent to external laboratories.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is an essential tool for diagnosing internal conditions in pets without the need for invasive surgery. Using high-frequency sound waves, we can produce real time images of your pet’s internal organs and tissues. Ultrasound is particularly useful for evaluating soft tissues such as the heart, liver, kidneys and digestive system, making it a crucial tool for diagnosing conditions like heart disease, tumours and infections. Ultrasound is also an invaluable diagnostic tool for critical or trauma patients and is commonly used to screen for internal damage or bleeding.
At Peak Vets we also offer pregnancy ultrasounds. Pregnancy ultrasounds can detect pregnancy as early as 3 weeks after mating.
X-Rays
Radiography (X-ray) is one of the most commonly used diagnostic tools for pets, helping us to identify bone fractures, joint issues, lung and heart conditions and abdominal problems and emergency situations. Our digital X-ray system produces high-quality images that are analysed by our experienced vets to assess your pet’s condition accurately and can easily be forwarded to specialist vets in the event that your pet requires specialist treatment.
If your pet presents with problems such as lameness, coughing, vomiting or diarrhoea our experienced vets may recommend radiographs. X-rays are also used later in pregnancy to get a clear view of the developing foetus and ensure everything is progressing as expected. Patients needing radiographs will need to remain still in order for us to get high quality images, so at times sedation will be required for this.
