In-house pathology

Our fully equipped in-house lab means we can run many tests on the spot—no waiting days for results. That means less stress for you and quicker care for your furry friend.

Common in-house tests we perform include:

  • Blood Tests (CBC & Biochemistry) – to check organ function, blood cells, electrolytes, and more

  • Urine Tests (Urinalysis) – to detect infections, kidney issues, or diabetes

  • Cytology – to examine lumps, skin issues, or ear infections

  • Progesterone Testing – ideal for timing breeding or whelping

  • Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (Phenobarbitone) – for pets with epilepsy

  • Thyroid Tests (T4) – to diagnose underactive or overactive thyroid

Need something more specialised? No problem—we can send samples to trusted external labs for advanced testing like histopathology.

use of lumps.

  • Progesterone testing: used to predict ovulation to determine the optimal time for breeding and also used to predict whelping.
  • Phenomav testing: important for monitoring therapeutic drug levels when treating epilepsy.
  • T4: used for diagnosing and managing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

If more specialised testing is required, such as histopathology on biopsies or lumps, samples can be sent to external laboratories.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound lets us take a gentle look inside your pet using sound waves—no pain, no surgery. This is especially helpful for checking soft organs like the liver, kidneys, heart, and digestive system.

We often use ultrasound to:

  • Investigate unexplained weight loss, vomiting, or bloating

  • Detect tumours, infections, or internal bleeding

  • Perform pregnancy checks (can confirm as early as 3 weeks after mating!)

It’s a safe and powerful way to get answers fast—especially in emergency or critical cases.

X-Rays

X-rays are a go-to tool for seeing what’s going on with your pet’s bones, chest, and belly. Our digital radiography system gives us crisp images we can read straight away—or send to a specialist if needed.

We may recommend X-rays for:

  • Lameness or limping

  • Coughing, vomiting, or abdominal issues

  • Bone fractures, joint problems, or arthritis

  • Late-term pregnancy checks to count puppies or kittens

Because pets need to stay perfectly still during X-rays, a light sedation is sometimes needed to get clear results.
